Works of the National Conference "The Use of New Technologies in Prevention and Disaster Management - The Role of Civil Protection", initiative of the Municipality of Rhodes and held in Rhodes from 24 to 26 October 2014 successfully completed.
The Conference has been supported by: the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization, the National Observatory of Athens, the University of Athens, the Geographie Department of Aegean University
and the Department of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The Conference was attended by around 80 participants from across Greece representing universities and research centers, organizations and the State Services, Organizations of Local Government and the Private Sector. The presentations covered a wide range of research and technology subjects and their applications in the prevention and management of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, forest fires, etc.. Several presentations were of general interest while other focused on the case of Rhodes. The conference included two parallel events: a visit to the Grand Master's Palace and the presentation of the new book "The Earthquakes and Tsunami Rhodes from antiquity until today", written by Dr. G. Papadopoulos.
The events hosted in three rooms of the "Semiramis City Centre Hotel 'Conference Center and in the great hall of the historic Lodging "language of Spain" in the Medieval City. All participants expressed great satisfaction both for the scientific part of the conference and for the organization and the hospitality and expressed the desire to continue this effort.
The Organizing Committee thanked the Scientific Committee for their assistance in the preparation of the program as well as the fourth Byzantine Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture and Sport and the «Semiramis City Hotel» administration for providing their hospitable venues, the Company Aerofilms E.E. for organizational participation, the "Haraxis OE" Company for providing technical support to the demands of such a specialized conference and and D.E.R.M.A.E. for the supplied catering. Also the Hydrobiological Station of Rhodes for providing display means.
